Zealand thump Netherlands by 99 runs
On Monday, New
Zealand handed the Netherlands a resounding 99-run defeat in the sixth match of
the ICC World Cup 2023 at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in
India. The Black Caps showcased an all-around performance, securing their top
position following a previous victory against England. Mitchell Santner played
a pivotal role with both the ball and the bat in this one-sided contest.
The Dutch team
faced a challenging task chasing the target of 323 runs, with openers Vikramjti
Singh and Max O’Dowd failing to provide a solid start. Despite middle-order
batter Colin Ackermann's resilient innings of 69 off 73, the Dutch struggled,
losing wickets consistently and ultimately getting all-out for 223 runs.
Skipper and wicketkeeper-batter Scott Edwards contributed 30 runs as the second
top-scorer.

Santner delivered a stellar performance, claiming the first five-wicket haul of
the World Cup with figures of five for 59 in 10 overs. Matt Henry secured three
wickets, and Rachin Ravindra picked up one.

In their
batting innings, New Zealand's top five – Devon Conway, Will Young, Ravindra,
Daryl Mitchell, and skipper Tom Latham – all made significant contributions,
putting their team in a commanding position. Despite losing two wickets in the
last 10 overs, Santner's late strikes propelled the Black Caps to a total of
322 runs in 50 overs. The 31-year-old Santner himself scored 36 off just 17
deliveries, including five boundaries.
